purge number one

That's my name, don't wear it out. Ok, what follows is the first official post upon which your eyes may feast. I'm committing to post at least once a week, but feel free to send hate mail when I fall behind (ok, just kidding about that last part--I only read happy emails :). Anyway, here goes nothin.

Greetings, and thanks for taking a few minutes to look at my new blog! A little behind in the 'blog' times, but I have finally arrived. My inspiration comes from the blog of a good friend, Greg Kendall-Ball. I'm sure I'll fall miserably short of any aspirations of living up to his standard of prose, but hey--you gotta get in the game, right?

For those of you I haven't talked to in a while, here's an update. I'm a 3rd year Master of Divinity student at Abilene Christian University. Third year?!? You say. Yes, this is possibly the longest masters degree ever (I'll let you draw your own conclusions about my motives). The degree program is 84-hours, and I'll finish in May 2006. Post-grad plans are 'officially' up in the air, but unofficially, I plan to join a mission team that is going to Olomouc, Czech Republic in the fall of 2006. I could go on and on (and on!) about the team and the vision, but for now (since nothing is 'official'), I'll leave it at that, and let you know that I'm taking a survey trip there in March, after which time I will be making a final decision (and of course, the team will be deciding if they want me!).

Well, for the next year and a half, I'll continue to call Abilene, TX 'home' (some would call it a barren wasteland). When you have a few spare moments, for a fun trick, find a globe (you know, that round thing with the USA and all those other countries that we never talk about) and put your finger on the middle of Texas (which would be Abilene), and look around (go, go gadget-arms!) to the same point 180 degrees around the globe...interesting.

Well, next time we'll get right to the important stuff. For now, allow me to make the disclaimer that I so greatly appreciated from Greg's blog: "Feel free to comment, but remember, if you don't have anything nice to say, be sure to say something mean in a witty, enjoyable way (it makes it easier to swallow when the mean pill has a sarcastic, witty outer coating...)"

a word about anonymous comments...
seems a bit shady if you ask me. so, the anonymous post sounds a whole lot like my old pal Sameer (waaassssup?!?!) but if it is, why in the fat world wouldn't he leave me any contact info? If that's you (old) man (ahahahah), holla at me!

Name's Curt Cooper. Not a ¨Blogger Member¨ sounds too much like a cult. But I got the email and forgive me but I do remember the name Jen Hale, but please help me remember a face. I liked the movie and music choices though. Anyway, I'll shut up

Hey Curt!
Good grief it's been a long time. I came to Honduras/El Salvador on a brigade with Jack Walker and Ryan Newhouse two summers ago. Are you still in San Miguel?

Ah, I see that my offspring wasted no time in blogging it with you. Thank-you my dearest for sending me your vomit, I can't get enough of the stuff. So you are pursuing the Czeckoslovakian angle, eh? Kind of crazy out there; you know they don't speak Spanish, yes? And they do not play samba music, no, not ever. Oh oh, I know, it was the Rrrussian accent that inspired you. I feel very good about this, yes. Thank you for including an older person in your blog invites. As soon as enough people your age are posting I'll stop because I'll know you don't need mine just to fill the page..... Abrazos, Chiquita!
